How can faculty place materials on Course Reserve for their students?

Answer

Requests for items to be added to the reserves can be submitted through the Course Reserves Request form.

You can use the form to indicate an item already in the library's collection that you would like us to place on course reserve, or to request the purchase of a new item. We currently accept ebook purchase requests for all courses. Physical books and materials will only be purchased for on-campus or hybrid courses. If you are interested in placing items other than books or media on reserve (such as modeling kits, special equipment, etc.) please contact us directly.

Our ebooks are purchased through a vendor and we may not always be able to source an ebook of your desired text. In the event that we cannot purchase a text as initially requested we will be in touch with alternative options. If you would like assistance identifying alternative course materials, please contact your liaison librarian

For requests for materials already in the library's collection allow five business days for turnaround, for new purchase requests allow two weeks for processing

If you would like to place a personal copy or copies of a text on reserve in the library, you do not need to complete the online form. Simply bring your items to the main Book Checkout & Pickup desk on the first floor of the library. Be prepared to complete a short form in-person when you drop off your items.

The library is unable to place materials from other libraries, such as those loaned from CSU+ or ILLiad, on Course Reserves. We are also unable to accept requests for instructor owned ebooks or other electronic materials. Please link these materials in Canvas.

For any questions related to your course materials or specific circumstances please contact Elliott Scheuer, Course Materials Specialist, at escheuer@sfsu.eduor 415-338-3473.

If you would like assistance identifying affordable learning alternatives, please contact your liaison librarian or visit CEETL's OER Resource Hub.
