Can I donate books to the Library?
Answer
Gifts of materials that support the university’s curriculum and research needs are encouraged and welcomed. Email David Hellman (hellman@sfsu.edu), the Collection Development Coordinator, to inquire about donating books or other materials.
In accordance with our policy on gifts and donations, please do not bring donations to the Library without approval:
“The Library reserves the right to refuse any potential gift or donation and is not obliged to return unsolicited materials. All gifts and donated material are considered the property of the Library. Potential donations that have been determined to be inappropriate for the Library's collections will be referred to the Friends of the Library (FOL) for the Friends Used Book & Media Store, distributed to other libraries, or disposed of in an appropriate manner.”
— J. Paul Leonard Library Collection Development Policy
The Friends of the Library organization also accepts books, records, DVDs, CDs, and other items to resell at the Used Book and Media Store on the first floor of the Library. These donations may be tax deductible, and you may be able to arrange a pickup or schedule a time to drop off donations at the loading dock. Please call 415-338-6262 or email fol@sfsu.edu to learn more.
